BALANCED HORSE TRAINING

Lessons and training based on natural horsemanship and equine behavior that puts the horse first and is structured to your ability and goals.

THE APPROACH

Bree offers a well-rounded education with a variety of methods and tools to create a solution for each specific horse and rider. She wants her riders and owners to gain a sense of timing, feel, and progression as well as set boundaries for the horse and the relationship. She trains horses so they can be grounded and calm and foster a level of emotional regulation. Training the horse so they can carry themselves in a way that they’re balanced for whatever movement comes next, horses end up with a level of freedom and self-confidence. She fully believes in preparing the horse for the path not preparing the path for the horse

LESSONS

At the end of the day, Bree wants Handler’s to know that their space should be sacred and they should feel confident in the role as the leader in their equine partnership. They should be able to recognize relaxation and start having an eye for balanced movement.

TRAINING

Bree’s goal is that horses should be balanced, relaxed, and self-confident. They should be able to think and relax through pressure so they are self-assured and capable of staying calm and relaxed in new and stressful environments.

"PROBLEM" HORSES

Bree strongly believes that horses don’t have to be stuck with the label they’ve been given. When supplied with boundaries and leadership in a structured way, they can quickly change and become a solid citizen,  as she’s seen with many SEO and training horses.

about bree

Like most young equestrians Bree became quickly and deeply obsessed with horses. She spent every minute she could around them and eagerly read every book she could get her hands on. This combination became a foundation in Bree’s equestrian life, as she continues to not only ride and train but also vigorously research, learn, clinic, and read. Her foundation in horses began with training mustangs and learning to use equine body language (animal behaviorism) to communicate and train horses on equal footing, now she is using all she has learned and continues to learn to create solid, happy horses and confident, capable riders. She admires Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt and continues to take steps in learning from those who work to continue their Legacy. Of those, her mentors and biggest influencers are Joel Conner and Marta Johann. She trains for private clients and for Sound Equine Options, giving rescue horses a chance at a successful and positive new life!

WHY GRACE?

The term ‘Grace’ can invoke a feeling or a thought different to each person. For me it defines what I hope to achieve both in life and with horses and serves as a guiding force. It’s dignity through strife, finding happiness through hard work or hard times. It’s humility, honesty, harmony, patience, faith and most of all kindness. When we work with a horse it is through their grace, not our own that we defy instincts, form trust between species, communicate with out words, and learn how to be a leader. It is their blind faith in a soft feel or a tender gesture that gains us their trust and a chance at a friendship. And it’s through Grace that they forgive us when we fail them and try for us even when we are lacking. When I’m lost or frustrated or at what feels like the end of my rope, I always find that it’s because I’ve lost Grace. I’ve lost patience or faith in myself or the horse, I’ve ignored or missed signals given to me because I’m too busy thinking instead of listening and feeling. I know that attaining Grace is a non-stop search and I will often fail but my goal is to keep it at the fore front in everything that I do. I want it to be the first thing I offer a horse and to be the center of all my learning and teaching.
